Isiolo

Background

Isiolo County borders Marsabit County to the North, Samburu and Laikipia Counties to the West, Garissa County to the South East, Wajir County to the North East, Tana River and Kitui Counties to the south and Meru and Tharaka Nithi Counties to the south West. It covers an area of approximately 25,700 km2.

Isiolo County is predominantly ASAL.Rainfall is low and erratic. It experiences frequent droughts and extreme vulnerability to climate change that present severe economic and social consequences for the whole county. Isiolo is among 14 counties under RPLRP.

  • For pastoralists, mobility is a strategic and sophisticated response to conditions of non-equilibrium.
  • The overall objective of the RPLRP is to develop and implement approaches that enhance livelihoods resilience of pastoral and agro-pastoral communities.
  • RPLRP will assist the target communities build resilience from extreme weather by facilitating development of opportunities that will improve the living standards of these communities.
  • RPLRP investments are entrenched in the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) which have been developed towards delivering to the Kenya vision 2030 goals.
